چکیده

The Weisberger relation, an exact statement of the parton model, elegantly relates a high-energy physics observable, the 1/x moment of parton distribution functions, to a nonperturbative low-energy observable: the dependence of the nucleon mass on the value of the quark mass or its corresponding quark condensate. We show that contemporary fits to nucleon structure functions fail to determine this 1/x moment; however, deeply virtual Compton scattering can be described in terms of a novel F1/x(t) form factor which illuminates this physics. An analysis of exclusive photon-induced processes in terms of the parton-nucleon scattering amplitude with Regge behavior reveals a failure of the high Q factorization of exclusive processes at low t in terms of the Generalized Parton-Distribution Functions which has been widely believed to hold in the past. We emphasize the need for more data for the DVCS process at large t in future or upgraded facilities. 1 The Weisberger relation The importance of the 1/x moment of parton distribution functions (pdf’s) was stressed in a 1972 paper byW.Weisberger [1]. There he derived a relation between the 1/x moment and the derivative of the squared proton mass with Talk and poster presented at MeNu07, part of a work in preparation. Polarized parton distribution functions reexamined.

The hard-gluonic contribution to the first moment of the polarized proton structure function g 1(x) is dependent of the factorization convention chosen in defining the quark spin density and the hard cross section for photon-gluon scattering. Two extremes of interest, namely gauge-invariant and chiral-invariant factorization schemes, are considered. We show that in order to satisfy the positivi...

Impact Parameter Space Interpretation for Generalized Parton Distributions

The Fourier transform of generalized parton distribution functions at ξ = 0 describes the distribution of partons in the transverse plane. The physical significance of these impact parameter dependent parton distribution functions is discussed. In particular, it is shown that they satisfy positivity constraints which justify their physical interpretation as a probability density. The generalize...

Single/Double-Spin Asymmetry Measurements of Semi-Inclusive Pion Electroproduction on a Transversely Polarized He Target through Deep Inelastic Scattering

Parton distribution functions, which represent the flavor and spin structure of the nucleon, provide invaluable information in illuminating quantum chromodynamics in the confinement region. Among various processes that measure such parton distribution functions, semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering is regarded as one of the golden channels to access transverse momentum dependent parton dist...

A New Parametrization of Polarized Parton Distribution Functions

Recently there has been renewed interest on polarized parton distributions in the nucleon, largely stimulated by the development of the next-to leading order(NLO) QCD calculations of polarized parton distribution functions and acquisition of high-precision polarized data on various targets. In this work, requiring reasonable physical conditions, (1)the positivity condition and (2) the counting ...
